This week I was lucky enough to attend the gorgeous Ways With Words Festival at Dartington Hall in Devon. Visitors coming to hear talks from a wide variety of speakers, including Dom Joly, David Livingstone and Mike Berners Lee to name just a few, could take a break from their schedule and have a taster session of Reiki in a deckchair!
It was certainly a novel way to give Reiki, and the beautiful grounds of Dartington Hall were the perfect backdrop. In between Reiki sessions I was able to wander around the grounds, soak up the atmosphere and sample the wonderful cakes on offer raising money for Amnesty International.
One of the highlights for me was doing a lovely treatment for Nahla Summers, author of 44 Rays of Sunshine. This remarkable woman cycled 3000 miles across the USA, and instead of being sponsored in cash for her cause, her supporters donated acts of kindness to strangers. My act of kindness to her was to offer her a free treatment, and being such a lovely person, she scuttled away and came back with a copy of her book for me. What a lovely exchange, and one I will not forget.
It wasn’t all glitz and glamour of course – there are always lots of bags to carry!
I’ve never known a 10 day outdoor event in the UK to go without a drop of rain, but it actually happened. You heard it here first!
I can thoroughly recommend a trip to Ways With Words next year, for some lovely relaxed vibes and nourishing talks.
